LifeCode is organized around a loop of survival, exploration and progression where you must feed A.R.C.H with data recovered in a dangerous laboratory. First, you leave your base knowing that each day has a strict limit and that you must use this time to locate an M3N, initiate a first export phase, then accumulate enough memory to unlock the functions of the central core. Then, you traverse the rooms while avoiding other creatures, drawn by hunger, while searching for useful resources in the environment. Otherwise, if you advance unprepared, one detour too many, a lack of medical supplies or an ill encounter can ruin the entire attempt. The principle is simple to understand, but it requires real decisions, because you must always choose between progressing, resupplying, returning safely or pushing exploration a little further. Variety comes from several systems that constantly interact. The laboratory layout is generated differently each run, which renews routes and forces adaptation rather than repeating a learned path. The dispensers at the base and in certain areas allow you to buy equipment using N Neutrons, a currency earned by launching an export, finishing it with phase two, and then activating the functions of the Control Core. This economy changes your priorities, because a risky outing can also prepare a better next one. You must also account for sleep, since the day only ends by returning to the base to sleep on the old mattress in the small starting room, and it is impossible to shorten the day by sleeping earlier. If you remain in the laboratory after midnight, the game immediately punishes you with death and the loss of what you were carrying. Have fun!
